With consecutive victories under their belts and keeping a clean sheet against the league leaders in midweek, it’s been a good few days for QPR and keeper Alex Smithies.

Confidence is oozing from all and sundry at Loftus Road after back-to-back victories against the Championship’s best, with Rangers following on from last weekend’s 2-1 win over high-flying Wolves with a 1-0 triumph over former table-toppers Sheffield United.

Ian Holloway’s resurgent R’s are now in the top half of the division, and travel to a Nottingham Forest side below them on goal difference alone.

Stopper Smithies now wants his side to build on the momentum and good feeling created by successive wins and ensure they do not return empty-handed from the East Midlands on Saturday.

“We’ve got a bit of momentum now. Finally, we’ve got back-to-back wins,” said 27-year-old Smithies.

“There’s real confidence between us all and we have shown that, even when we’re not on top in terms of chances and possession, we can fight until the death.

“Sometimes when you go away, that’s what you have to do and we’ll be trying to do that on Saturday.

“Our style of pressing and not letting opponents have time on the ball means that, as a team, you have to be incredibly fit.

“The lads have shown during the last couple of games how fit they are and how they’ve worked in training to get into this position.

“Anyone who steps into the team has to be in the same position. It’s fantastic to see.”
