Sergi Canos is aiming to get back up to speed as quickly as possible after finally making his injury comeback for Brentford last weekend.

The 20-year-old Spaniard had been sidelined with an ankle problem picked up in September but finally returned to action as a substitute in the Bees’ dramatic 3-3 draw with Sunderland last weekend.

As he looks to regain match sharpness, Canos is part of the Brentford B side that will take on Inter Milan’s Under-19s in Italy this afternoon (kick-off 2.30pm UK time) and the winger is aiming to make the most of the opportunity to get more game time under his belt.

“I'm feeling back to normal,” said Canos.

“I'm feeling better every day but I also feel that I need a lot more game time.

“I feel like everyone else is [in] another gear to me and that's why I have come to play with the B Team.

“I want to improve my fitness as soon as possible and get back into the team.

“I was talking with my friends in Spain – they play at Valencia and Villarreal. They can't do this. They can't drop down to the B Team and play a game because they've been injured.

“This is one thing that will help us at Brentford.

“You can see, even in training, that the B Team is getting a lot of confidence and they have got really good players.”

Former Liverpool and Barcelona youth-teamer Canos is also aiming to provide a helping hand to some of Brentford B’s younger players.

He added: “Of course I hope I can be someone to look up to. I want them to ask me questions. If they want advice, I am here for anything because I have been one of them not long ago.

“For me, when I was at Liverpool, when I could speak to [Phillipe] Coutinho or [Mamadou] Sakho when they played in the younger teams, it was amazing and they were just like one of us. So yes, it's nice to be that for these players.”
