Cricket: EASTCOTE suffered a double blow at the weekend, plunging into deeper relegation trouble and losing out in the Evening Standard Trophy.

They went down to Stanmore by five wickets in the Middlesex County Cricket League Division One and then lost to High Wycombe by 43 runs in the Trophy.

The Stanmore defeat leaves them one place off the bottom of the table, with only neighbours Ickenham below them.

Against Wycombe, Eastcote were up against a superb display from all-rounder Mark Wright.

He batted for 45 of the allocated 50 overs, racking up 107 runs in the process.

Wright's partners were also among the runs with Gregg Pooley scoring 44 and Robbie Jones making 28.

In the early stages of the match, only Chris Coleman (2-58) and Adam Rowan (2-26) claimed victims.

Wycombe eventually finished with a total of 268-6.

But the visitors looked like pulling off a shock victory when Stefan and Chris James had a second wicket stand of 134.

But Wright (1-34) and Jones (2-46) got the vital wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 225 in the last over of the game.

It was the second time that Eastcote have lost to the Home Counties Premier side this season, having gone out of the National Knockout Cup to the same opponents.

Ickenham are still looking for their first win of the season after going down to Teddington by four wickets.

Keith Waller was the top scorer for the visitors with 69 runs.

In Division Two, Uxbridge drew their match against Barnes to remain in second place in Division Two.

Uxbridge opener Parm Mangat hit a stunning 148 off just 137 balls.

That helped his side to an impressive total of 274-9 from 50 overs.

But they ran out of time as they tried to bowl out their opponents.

On Saturday, Eastcote play host to Ickenham in a local derby while Uxbridge travel to South Hampstead.
