NURSES, volunteers, administrators, physiotherapists and doctors were all among NHS staff honoured at an awards ceremony.

The trust that runs Northwick Park, St. Mark’s, Ealing and Central Middlesex hospitals, as well as community services across Harrow, Brent and Ealing, announced the winners of its annual Staff Excellence Awards in front of 350 guests at the Hilton Hotel, Wembley.

Voted for by patients, staff and members of the public, London North West University Healthcare’s Staff Excellence Awards showcase the vital work of the 9,000 staff who work at the trust.

This year more than 330 nominations were received from grateful patients, family members and staff – the highest number received since the awards began in 2015.

In the NHS’s 70th year, a special lifetime achievement award was introduced to recognise the outstanding contribution made by a member of staff who has served more than 15 years in the Trust.

Micro-biologist Sayyed Adnan Aali, who has worked at Ealing Hospital for more than 20 years, was announced as the winner.

In his nomination, Dr Aali’s colleague, Gurj Sandhu, a consultant physician, described him as an unsung hero.

He added: “Dr Aali always goes the extra mile for staff and our patients. He is known and valued by all of our junior staff, consultants and many local GPs. He is humble, kind and always calm and polite whatever the situation.”

Dr Aali said: “The feeling of knowing I have been recommended for this award by my colleagues is excellent. I have loved every minute of my time working at Ealing Hospital and that is thanks to my colleagues. I also love seeing and helping patients – it is my passion.”
