Neil Critchley has promised QPR fans they will have an attacking side to watch ahead of the first game of his tenure at Preston on Saturday.

Critchley took over as head coach last Sunday, giving him less than a week to get his team in shape for the game.

QPR are looking for their first win in four Championship games and were well beaten 3-0 by Burnley last time out.

“We may not be in a great moment now but there is no doubting the quality of the squad,” said Critchley.

“You have to remind the players what they are good at and get back to that.

“As quickly as you can lose a few games in the Championship you can very quickly win a few and the feeling can change very quickly.

“I’m very attack minded. We want a team that’s forward thinking, forward passing, forward running, attacks with the ball, attacks without the ball.

“Everyone has to be together. Our game way has to be with everyone in mind, total clarity in the way we want to play and that’s how we train every day, that’s the process we want to follow.”

Critchley is confident that his experience at Blackpool and Aston Villa will help him turn QPR’s fortunes around.

The 44-year-old guided Blackpool to promotion from League One in 2020/21, his first season in charge, and was most recently Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Villa Park until the former England midfielder was sacked in October.

“As of late the results haven’t gone the way we would have wanted them to go but as you know this league is very tight and we can soon change that,” he added.

“This squad of players should be looking upwards.

“I can’t wait, I have missed that buzz of Saturday, 3pm. It will be a very proud moment for me to stand on the touchline as the leader of this football club.

“The support I have already received from the players and staff has been incredible. I got a really good feel about the club as a whole.

“I know I am going to be a good fit here and the next step is to try and put a team that represents the supporters out on the football pitch. That is my next aim.”
