Tabai Matson revealed that yesterday's 27-19 defeat to Leicester Tigers was the worst he's ever felt as Harlequins head coach.

Quins were outclassed at the Stoop, as Tommy Reffell shone for a clinical Tigers on the day prop Joe Marler made his 250th appearance for the home side.

Despite two tries from Cadan Murley, who has just earned an England call-up, and a last-ditch effort by Danny Care in the second half, Matson’s side had left themselves with too much to do after falling 17-0 behind.

He said: "It's very disappointing when they were the best in every area and it's the worst I've felt since being here.

"They were brutal in the collisions and our breakdown was not good enough, but they forced errors from us and were pretty flawless.

"You've got to keep the scoreline close and keep the tempo up but we could not do that either."

Murley's impressive performances on the wing this season has earned the 23-year-old his first call up for Eddie Jones' England senior squad for the Autumn Nations Series.

He scored their first try against Tigers in the 68th minute, dotting down after a pass from Tommy Allan, and crossed again late on.

A sensational run from his own half seemed to set the winger up for a hat-trick in the closing stages, but it was Care who finished the move off instead.

And Matson further expressed his excitement over Murley’s development, naming him as one of the key ingredients of their team.

He said: "Cadan is the best left wing in the league and he looked dangerous all the time, but we must work out ways of getting him more possession as we did not do that."
