Manchester City goalscorer Lauren Hemp insists her side are targeting winning multiple trophies across the rest of this season.

After last week’s 2-1 victory in Gothenburg, City confirmed their place in the last-16 of the Women’s Champions League with a 3-0 win in Manchester.

The 20-year-old scored the opening goal in the first half of the second leg before a Georgia Stanway double after the break sealed a comfortable victory.

And Hemp believes City can be firing on all cylinders and competing for silverware on all fronts this season.

“It was nice to get back to the Champions League,” Hemp said. “It’s a massive trophy that we’d love to win and it was a good performance from the team.

“Off the back of last week’s performance as well, it was nice to really kick on and get through to the next round.

“It’s definitely a target, we’d love to win it and it’s one of the trophies we’ve definitely got our eyes on.

“We want to get that trophy. We’ve got a squad who is capable of achieving whatever we want to.

“Obviously the Champions League is one you want to win, and the league as well.

“We’d love to push on in all competitions – we’ve won the FA Cup already this year – and it’s exciting to see what we can achieve.

“Once the team starts getting the performances like we have done recently, then you’ll start to see that our performances are worthy of winning the Champions League and the rest of the trophies that are up for grabs this season.”

Hemp has recently returned to the matchday squad after being sidelined in the FA Women’s Community Shield in August.

The hamstring injury meant the PFA Young Player of the Year missed a sizeable chunk of the season but is delighted to be back on the pitch and scoring again.

“It was pretty crazy, I don’t think I’ve shot from that distance before,” Hemp added. “I couldn’t believe it afterwards, I think you could see by my celebration I was just standing there in shock.

“I went to run down the line and I cut inside and I did look up and see that the keeper was off their line and it just went in slow motion for me.

“I’m loving being back on the pitch, it’s been a hard few months getting back from injury but it’s definitely helped with my confidence.

“I felt confident today and it’s a credit to the staff and players, giving me the confidence to go out doing what I love every week.

“It’s nice to get some minutes back in my legs and hopefully build that up in the last game remaining and hopefully push on into the new year and contribute to as many goals and assists as I can.”
