Despite only claiming two points from their last four matches, QPR boss Mark Warburton believes his side are in the thick of the battle for promotion.

Since their 3-2 away win at Hull, the R’s have drawn two matches and lost two in the Championship but face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Friday evening.

Their lack of form of late has left QPR in tenth place in the standings but Warburton trusts his players have the quality to bounce back and put together a run of results.

“The league is so tough, there is no-one breaking away,” Warburton said. “We have taken two points from our last 12 and are right in it. It’s about being consistent.

“Any team that can win four out of six, or three out of five with a draw, is going to be in good shape.

“I think we are capable of more – we have shown we are capable of more.

“We have missed chances, we have made some individual errors, but we are a team and we win and lose together.

“There is no doubting the quality in the dressing room. There is a good mix of youth and experience, and I think we can put our head down and get some good results together.”

The international break meant players such as Nahki Wells, Jan Mlakar, Ebere Eze and Matt Smith were all away with their countries.

However, it also provided an opportunity for the rest of squad to boost themselves ahead of the busy winter period and Warburton hopes his team can find a balance with the relentless nature of the schedule.

“Some of the boys have been away on international duty and you run the risk of injury and fatigue, but they are all back now, safe and sound thankfully, but you always have that fear as a manager,” Warburton added.

“The break in fixtures gave us a chance to recharge before going into what we know is a really demanding period.

“This now defines the Championship, after the third international break through to the next one in March.

“It is full on, it’s a relentless demand for the players and we have to make sure we get the loading right.”
