Brentford head coach Thomas Frank was thrilled with how his side played in the first half of their 3-0 win over Derby County on Saturday but has urged his players to use the international break to become more clinical.

Two goals in 83 seconds from Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins catapulted Brentford into the lead in the first 20 minutes.

Watkins added his second just before the break at Griffin Park where the Bees sealed their first home win of the season.

Despite a first-half spectacle, Frank believes his team should have capitalised more in the match than they did, particularly in the second half.

“It was unbelievable. I’m very pleased and happy and proud of the players,” Frank said.

“I think they did fantastic especially the first half.

“I think there were five or six situations where we should have just killed the game and made it four or five-nil but that’s next level.

“That’s where you can see we still need to improve a bit over time but I’m very satisfied.”

Brentford now have two wins from six this campaign and sit 14th in the Championship ahead of the international break.

Frank credits the superb performance with the side having a better understanding of the connections between the players.

“I think one thing we need to be of aware of is that this is a new team,” Frank added.

“We have five new starters compared to last season and there were two to three players in new positions.

“Henrik Dalsagaard as a right centre-back, Sergi Canos as a wing-back and Ollie Watkins as a nine.

“Those relationships, that organisation and structure you could see it looked promising in the last five games but today it clicked more.

“It still needs to take some time to get things going because we’re working during the week to make the team better, the players better and make it click so that’s the next thing.

“Thank you to the fans because there was an unbelievable atmosphere out there today.

“They’ve supported us through the first five games, and they’ve been so good, it was nice to show that it’s a new team and we needed that patience.

“There will hopefully be some even bigger highs than this but there will also be some downs because we’re not 100 percent clicking yet but that patience has been massive for us.”
