Transfer activity was the main topic of discussion in Mark Warburton’s first press conference as Queens Park Rangers manager and he will consider bringing in players of all ages this summer.

The former Brentford and Rangers boss arrived at Loftus Road just over a week ago and was announced in comical style on social media.

But things have now turned serious for the 56-year-old as behind-the-scenes preparations for next season begin and everyone wants to know who will be joining and leaving the club.

And one thing that Warburton made clear was that the summer transfer period would be a busy one.

“We’ll be looking at players young and old, in terms of experience,” said Warburton.

“You have to have maturity, experience and seniority to succeed in this really tough division but at the same time, we want youthful energy, hunger, and desire and passion as well.

“If we can get that balance right, then we will be in a good place. I’m sure every club will be vying for the same thing but there are some good young players out there who would definitely benefit from coming and playing at a club like QPR and getting that experience.

“There are some good senior names, who can add their maturity and game knowledge to what is a young squad of players, too. We have to get that balance right and then we’ll see where we are.”

Steve McClaren’s reign ended with just one win in 15 matches as the Rs barely finished above the relegation places and Warburton will be charged with making the necessary changes to ensure that does not happen again next season.

“I’ve been here a matter of days but I know many of the players and we understand the financial situation and what we need to do as a club to give it that firm foundation,” he added.

“Some tough decisions have been made, and will have to be made, but it’s all for the good of the club.

“That’s a clear message that has to go out to our supporters, staff and players – we are doing the right things for the long-term welfare of QPR.

“Hopefully, we can get some young players in, work with the players we already have, use the market wisely, and see where that takes us.”
