Danny Care lamented that Harlequins proved a soft touch as they had their noses bloodied by Bath.

Paul Gustard’s troops slipped to their second defeat of the new Gallagher Premiership season as they lost a pulsating clash 37-32 at the Stoop.

Despite a losing bonus point, England scrum-half Care reckoned Quins were out-fought on their own turf and didn’t come up with the answers to combat Bath's aggression.

“We said it in the changing rooms after – [in the] first 40 minutes, we got beat up,” said Care, 31.

“We were soft. They came with a game plan to get stuck into us and try and beat us up physically and unfortunately, they managed to do that.

“We just gave them too many easy points, too many easy tries, [and] we missed a few tackles.

“The fightback at the end was brilliant to show the team spirit we’ve got at the moment but you give a team like Bath that big a lead; it’s always going to be so hard to claw it back.

“The fans were brilliant again – [they] roared us over the line towards the end.

“To pick up two points, it’s not the end of the world, but we want to win our home games.

“The overriding feeling is one of disappointment but like we say always, we’ve got to get on to the next job – Bristol away next weekend – and try and get a win.”

Harlequins find themselves sixth in the nascent Premiership Rugby table having suffered back-to-back defeats following their opening day victory over Sale Sharks.

Newly-promoted Bristol Bears, their opponents next Saturday, have also lost their last two, going down 35-13 at Gloucester Rugby last Friday night.
