ONE of the youngest councillors in the borough has won the Northolt West End by-election.
Labour Cllr Bassam Mahfouz, 24, who has lived in Northolt since he was four, won with 2,545 votes in the by-election which was held on the same day as the general election last Thursday.
Cllr Mahfouz, who was joined by his fiance and two sisters as the result came in at Greenford Hall in the early hours of Friday morning, said: "I am absolutely ecstatic and delighted that I have been elected on a positive platform.
"We can now move forward on decent homes, more safer neighbourhood teams and more youth facilities and I hope to work closely with councillors Dave Bond and Mike Elliot."
Cllr Mahfouz replaces former Labour Cllr Sophie Hosking who resigned in March to move to Leeds. Cllr Leo Thompson, leader of the Labour administration, congratulated Cllr Mahfouz on his win and welcomed him to the council.
