BRENTFORD’S latest trialist, former Spurs and Bristol City striker Peter Beadle, made a fine debut to help earn victory over Conference side Farnborough on Saturday.

Beadle, 31, who scored the first goal and then earned a penalty which Mark Peters put away for the first of his brace, declared: “Personally, it couldn’t have gone any better.” Wally Downes, the Bees boss, has been frantically trying to bring in two strikers in time for this Saturday’s first Division Two match of the season at Tranmere, but Peters, who scored the winner in a 2-1 victory at Staines Town on Tuesday last week, is hoping to claim one of the striking spots.

Beale struck on 13 minutes from Michael Dobson’s right wing cross and when Burton was judged to have fouled him five minutes later a hotly disputed penalty was converted by Peters’ trusty right foot.

Peters got his second goal on 52 minutes, tucking away Stephen Evans’ through ball.

Farnborough, whose assistant manager is ex-Hampton boss Ian McDonald, finally reduced the arrears in the 67th minute, with substitute Barrington Belgrave blasting in Paul Campbell’s cross. But it was small consolation after having two penalty appeals rejected for ‘hands’ by Leo Roget and when Opinel was brought down. The only other times they found a way past Brentford’s back five, Boro were foiled by keeper Paul Smith.

Peters, 19, could have had a hat-trick but, after hitting a post earlier, had a ‘goal’ disallowed for off-side.

Brentford: P. Smith (Julian, 46mins); Dobson (Allen-Page, 68), Somner (Hunt, 46), Sonko (Frampton, 68), Roget, O’Connor (Traynor, 77); J. Smith, Evans (Tabb, 58), Fieldwick; Beadle (McPhee, 58), Peters (Blackman, 83). Subs not used: Thomas, Hughes.
