THE Salvation Army is calling on people in Greenford to donate toys to its Christmas Present Appeal, to support families struggling to make ends meet.

Last year, it distributed more than 200 gifts and the church and charity fear more people will need support this year.

Salvation Army Greenford leader Kath Davison said: “Christmas is a time when financial worries are brought into sharp focus.

“Helping parents provide a gift for their child not only eases financial pressures but helps bring the joy of Christmas into their homes.”

The church, at Costons Lane, Greenford, will be collecting donations of new unwrapped toys from December 1-22. Gifts for teenagers in particular would be welcome.

People can drop off their contributions there or make a donation via justgiving

The Salvation Army will sort and distribute the gifts to children and families in the area.

Gifts can include educational toys, baby clothes, bath toys, books, dolls and action figures, sports equipment and clothing, toiletries, gloves, scarves, hats, T-shirts, hair accessories and gift vouchers.

People can also donate through The Entertainer’s Big Toy appeal. Customers can buy an extra toy to donate when they visit a store or shop online at TheToyShop.com

For each toy donated, The Entertainer will also add another.

Other festive activity to enjoy at Greenford Salvation Army includes a carol service on Sunday, December 15, 3pm and Carols by Candlelight on Sunday, December 22, 5pm.

There is also a Christmas Day service at 10.30am. Everyone is welcome to attend.
