THIS Stoptober, Ealing Smokefree Service is introducing a new programme to help residents quit smoking.
It is launching a swap-to-stop scheme, offering patients access to free e-cigarettes as a healthier alternative to smoking.
Working with Totally Wicked, Ealing Community Partners will provide people with a vape starter pack, including a device and e-liquid tailored to their preferred strength and flavour.
As e-cigarettes become the most popular method for quitting smoking, the scheme aims to support residents making the transition.
Katerina Manginas, Service Manager of Ealing Smokefree Service, said: “With personalised advice and a range of tools, like e-cigarettes and nicotine replacement therapies, there’s never been a better time to make the change."
E-cigarettes are estimated to be 95% less harmful than tobacco.
To join the swap-to-stop scheme, patients must complete a referral (either self-referred or through their GP), be a current smoker, and undergo a carbon monoxide test.
They will also take part in an initial session, where staff will assess their needs and devise a personalised quitting strategy.
Ealing Smokefree Service provides a free eight-week programme to support smokers through their quit journey.
The service offers weekly consultations face-to-face, virtually, or over the phone.
Patients can also access slow-release patches and fast-acting lozenges, sprays and inhalators.
