QPR boss Marti Cifuentes admitted it was two points dropped for his side after conceding late on to draw 1-1 with Plymouth Argyle.

The R’s looked set for a vital three points on the road in Devon after Sam Field stabbed home from a goalmouth scramble with just over 15 minutes left on the clock.

But fellow relegation rivals Argyle stole a point five minutes from time after Albert Adomah turned into his own net, leaving the Hoops four points above the drop with four games left to play.

And Cifuentes rued a missed chance to claim all three points and all but secure their second-tier status for another season.

"We're probably in the position we are in currently because we don't score enough goals,” he said. “We can be satisfied with the performance but not the result.

"It was important for us to have a strong reaction to Saturday's game [2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday] where we didn't perform to the level we wanted to.

"We gave a strong performance and created enough chances to win the game. For a period in the second half, we were so dominant and created many chances.

"In a relegation battle, it's not easy to arrive in the last five games of the season and keep calm.

"The reality is, I think our players are doing good things. Plymouth also have some very good players.

"They didn't create so much tonight and I think that shows you how focused our players are on the challenge in front of them.

"It was disappointing to concede when we did because it was so late in the game. We have improved in set-piece situations so much and it was a shame that we conceded.

"But the reality of football is that when you don't take your chances, your opponent only needs a half-chance to take something from the game."

The R’s had a number of chances to score before Field’s opener, with Paul Smyth spurning a one-on-one chance after the break.

It was reflective of their dominance throughout the contest, but the visitors were unable to hang on for the three points which would have seen them rise to 15th, six points clear of the drop zone.

Instead, QPR now travel to Hull City on Saturday before the visits of Preston North End and Leeds United at the end of April with relegation worries still real.

But Cifuentes insisted the level of performance on Tuesday night gave him plenty of encouragement that his side will do more than enough to get the points they need for survival.

"If we continue to play to the level we did tonight, we'll win a lot of football matches,” he added.

"We need to focus on repeating this type of performance.

"If we do that, I'm sure we'll collect a lot of points over the final four games of the season."
