LIVE music, food from across the world and fairground rides were just some of the attractions on offer at a popular carnival yesterday.

Thousands of people visited the Greenford Carnival, which officially launches the Ealing Summer Festival, yesterday afternoon.

The event, held in Ravenor Park, attracted visitors from far and wide, and hosted displays from local churches, sports clubs, community groups and local radio station Westside FM.

Music was supplied by artists like up-and-coming UK Soul star David Mensah and one of the highlights of the day was the Samba dance group Yes Brazil.

Councillor Julian Bell, a Greenford Broadway representative and leader of the Labour group, said: "The weather's held out for us fortunately and we've had a really good attendance so far.

"There's everything here really, there's music and dance groups for all ages, and there's a lot of sports, and all the funfair rides.

"The carnival has been running a long time although it actually stopped because we weren't able to find an organiser a couple of years ago, but this is its second year back.

"As local councillors for the last two years we've put £5,000 of our area committee budget into the carnival to make sure it happens, and the turnout today shows just how much people want to come here and how much they enjoy it."
