THE family of an Ealing man is appealing for witnesses following a serious road accident in which their father was left brain-injured and with multiple fractures.

Jagjit Sandhu was hit by a motor cycle while crossing Popes Lane, near Gunnersbury Park, at 1.38pm on December 3.

Mr Sandhu, 77, a familiar face in his neighbourhood, was walking his golden retriever, Charlie, when he was struck.

After his wife Sukhdarshan arrived at the scene, Mr Sandhu, recognising the severity of his accident, thought he was dying and told her to ring their children so he could say his final goodbyes.

He was taken by ambulance to St Mary's Hospital for emergency surgery, where he remained for several weeks in ICU.

Mr Sandhu's daughter, Parminder, said her father is now undergoing intense rehabilitation in the Wellington Hospital and is doing well, considering they thought he would not make it through the first 24 hours.

A witness in a blue Hyundai, who agreed to alert the family, did not leave his name. He drove Mr Sandhu’s wife to the scene and remained there until the services arrived.

"We would really appreciate this very considerate man getting back in touch,” said Parminder.

“We're so grateful for his help that allowed us to see our dad at such a key time. His evidence will help our father's case and could help greatly with his rehabilitation.

"There is a way to go, but we're all feeling much more positive about his recovery.

"He has had so many messages of prayers and support from all around the world. It has meant a huge amount to him and massively helped with his recovery.

"Any help from witnesses would be appreciated by all of us.”
