EALING was buzzing over the weekend, with runners, supporters, residents and volunteers celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ealing Half Marathon on the streets of the borough.

On Sunday morning, light clouds and unseasonably warm temperatures were in evidence as the 5,000-plus runners were lining up on the start line.

Official starter Kelvin Walker, co-founder of the Ealing Half Marathon, sent the runners on their way at 9am before joining the running crowd.

John Fielding, a newcomer running his very first half marathon, took the Ealing title in a time of 01:08:35 after pulling away from runner-up Elias Ahmed (Ealing, Southall & Middlesex AC), who finished in 01:08:53. Jonathan Poole (Serpentine RC) our returning champion took third place in 01:11:04.

Alice Braham (Ealing Eagles RC) was the fastest in the women’s field and took the title in 01:18:23, ahead of Sarah Gerrie (Ealing Southall & Middlesex AC), who finished in 01:28:59. Kelly Clark came third in 01:29:03.

The single lap 13.1 mile course started and finished in Lammas Park and took in parts of Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephens.

The top three men and women were awarded a cash prize and Altra trainers from Up & Running, and all age group winners, as well as the fastest Ealing residents and the best fancy dress, received Up & Running prizes, too.

Runners from 92 different clubs were taking part, including 305 members from the Ealing Eagles.

Many runners could also be seen in charity vests, raising valuable funds for charities including Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and Meadow House Hospice.

Ealing Mini Mile took place in Lammas Park on Saturday, with the biggest ever field of young runners signed up and a total of eight races across the age categories.

This year’s finishers’ T-shirt featured a designed by Iva. from St Augustine’s school in Ealing.

Winners in the different age categories were: Arthur Poole (Family Mini Mile); Mack Thomas and Lily Milanov (6 year olds); Joshua Heath and Jessica Lennon (7 year olds); Dejan Luzajic and Cissie Bootman (8 year olds); Noah Liborg and Alexia Gaudin (9 year olds); Mikal Hashim and Violet Muralidhar (10 year olds); Jack Hayward Sofia Mossi (11 year olds); Dominic Quinn and Naimah Mossi (12-16 year olds). ,

Sponsors and partners of Ealing Half Marathon 2022 included IKON Dental Specialists, Up & Running, Ealing Trailfinders, Ealing Fitness Clinic, the Forester Pub, The Green Quarter and EHM Legacy CIC.

Next year’s race will be on Sunday, September 24, and entries opened at 1pm today (26) with places starting at £29 for the first 200 entrants and then the event is turning back time to 2012 prices £32 and £34 for a limited time.
