Blackpool wheelchair fencing star Justine Moore has set her sights on a return to the Paralympic Games after being hand-picked as a SportsAid, Next Generation athlete, fuelled by Aldi.

SportsAid supports over 1,000 young athletes each year by providing a financial award to help with training and competition costs, while also delivering personal development opportunities to many athletes through workshop sessions.

Aldi are now working in partnership with SportsAid to support 20 young athletes on their journey to becoming future Olympians and Paralympians – including Moore – and helping them to eat like a champion.

Moore, 30, competed on home soil at London 2012 and hopes the funding boost will help her return to the big stage next time around.

"My aim is Paris 2024. That is my next step," said Moore, speaking after filming a new TV advertising campaign for Aldi, who work with Team GB and ParalympicsGB on the Get Set to Eat Fresh programme, helping school children eat healthier and live an active lifestyle.

"I competed at London 2012, my first Games, but I was quite young then, so I did not really know much about it.

"It was more about the experience around it, and it was amazing.

"I didn't make Rio, and I didn't make Tokyo due to the pandemic, so I am hoping that Paris can be the one.

"It is amazing for Aldi to support us. It is awesome to have the help, and I get all my fruit and vegetables from there anyway.

"It feels like they are giving me something back and helping me on my journey as an athlete."

Each year, athletes are nominated to SportsAid by the national governing bodies of more than 60 sports based on set criteria.

The Aldi-supported athletes will be receiving a £2,000 award through SportsAid. Aldi will also support their 20 athletes with a £25 monthly voucher, to fuel them through training, competitions and to future Olympic and Paralympic Games.

And Moore believes the funding will be vital in ensuring she can get to as many competitions as possible ahead of Paris.

She added: "SportsAid is massively helpful, and I can’t thank Aldi enough either for their backing. For example, that money helped me get to Sheffield for the National Championships.

"I don't have to worry about anything, which is massively helpful.

"You don't have to have that extra stress. You know everything is in hand and that you can get to your competitions.

"There are times where financial problems can make it hard to budget, even when they want you there.

"Support from SportsAid and Aldi – and other people is massive and means you can just go in and focus on your game.”

Aldi is the Official Supermarket Partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB and have partnered with Team GB since 2015, ParalympicsGB since 2022 and will be supporting them through to Paris 2024
