AN Ealing woman who has undertaken many voluntary roles and had a social work career is made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Ella Marks, 88, receives her honour for services to the borough’s community.

As President of the League of Jewish Women, 2007-2010, she helped the organisation go from strength to strength.

After ending her term of office, she continues as a ‘wise counsellor’, advising and guiding.

As chair of Ealing University of the Third Age (U3A) from 2005-2008, she oversaw the smooth-running of more than 20 different cultural study groups.

It enables thousands of older members of Ealing’s community to remain intellectually and socially active.

And, as a long-standing volunteer with Ealing Talking Newspapers for more than 20 years, she has given visually-impaired people access to local news.
