ANYONE being treated in A&E at Ealing and Northwick Park hospitals, who requires a blood test, will be automatically tested for HIV and hepatitis from this week.
The decision is part of a London-wide initiative as part of the Government’s wider goal of ending new HIV cases by 2030
At present, more than 38,000 people are HIV positive in the capital.IVHIV in
Ian Green, CEO of the Terrence Higgins Trust, said: ‘The expansion of opt-out HIV testing in emergency departments is an important step change when it comes to reaching our life-changing goal of ending new HIV cases by 2030.
“We need to be testing more people, more often in order to find the estimated 4,660 people living with undiagnosed HIV in the UK.”
