England prop Sarah Bern said there is still plenty for her side to improve on despite sealing the 2022 TikTok Women’s Six Nations with a Grand Slam courtesy of victory over France.

Bern scored twice in the first half as England established a 21-7 lead at the break and held out in the second half to secure the Grand Slam in front of a lively crowd in Bayonne.

But Bern believes there is still plenty of work to do ahead of the World Cup later in the year.

She said: “It’s brilliant that we’ve won but what we have to do is learn from this because there were a few mistakes that we did today that we really need to polish up.

“I’m probably one of the harshest critics ever of my game, our game.

“We all strive for perfection - it will never happen - but we’re going to continue to strive.

“All facets of the game we can get that 1% better at and we’ll continue to do that throughout the pre-season and building into the World Cup.”

Bern has stood out for England throughout the Championship but is simply thankful to be playing after almost a year out with a shoulder injury in 2021.

“It’s probably the most consistent I’ve been on the pitch,” said Bern.

“It hasn’t been about trying to be the best, it’s been about getting on the pitch. I’m very honoured and thankful to be in the position to even step onto the pitch.”

The Bristol Bears forward is part of an England side that now turns its attention to the World Cup later this year, with the Red Roses hoping to extend their 23-game unbeaten record on the way to the title.

“The World Cup is always at the back of everyone’s mind,” said Bern.

“When you get to the World Cup it’s brilliant to have those records but at the end of the day you have got to win the World Cup.

“We are going out there to win it. Those records are brilliant but our main focus is the World Cup.

“The game has come on so much. I was just a baby at the last World Cup and at the time I thought this is the best team I’ve ever played in, nothing’s going to beat this but fast forward five years and I’m going this is the best team I’ve ever played in.

“To sit here and say we’ve got this in the bag would be stupid. We know there’s so much more we want to work on.

“The score is brilliant but we look at our process and whether we could push forward in that area. We know they are going to come back out. New Zealand have got some brilliant coaches coming in.

“France we know will always come back for the fight. Everyone will turn up for the World Cup. We need to make sure we’re there and as turned up as everyone else.”
