Greg McWilliams insists Ireland have the attitude, if not the execution, to compete against the best in the TikTok Women's Six Nations ahead of Super Saturday's clash with Scotland.

Linda Djougang, Neve Jones and Dorothy Wall all currently sit joint top of the dominant tackle rankings with six each during the Championship.

However, McWilliams' side have lost three of their four games, with their only victory coming in the 29-8 dispatching of Italy in Round 3, leaving them in fourth ahead of Super Saturday.

Their opponents, Scotland, are currently bottom of the TikTok Women's Six Nations table after suffering four consecutive defeats, including last Saturday's 20-13 loss at the hands of the Azzurre.

And for McWilliams, there is plenty to be taken from the first four rounds despite the results.

He said: "We need to improve so much in so many areas, but if you look at the first four rounds and who has made the most dominant hits of all the players playing in the TikTok Women's Six Nations, Ireland are ranked one, two and three.

"I think it is a great thing when you have that ability to have your passion and emotional connection to what you're doing.

"That is what we have in spades. That is why I am proud as a coach.

"To have four players in the top six for dominant tackles, sometimes when you're building a team, you can have a team where you wonder how they win because they don't have the skillsets of others.

"And then you look at other teams that have everything that you want, but they don't win.

"To become more successful, it is about putting together wins, but it is also about our skillset, our execution and how we cope under pressure.

"To have that passion is massive, and to have that emotional connection is so important because I think by having that, you have a really good chance of developing.

"Hopefully, we can just continue to improve our execution and our understanding of the game, and I think we have got a pretty good chance of being more competitive next year."

Full-back Vicky Irwin will make her international debut against Scotland, moving Molly Scuffil-McCabe, who made her debut last week, to the left wing in the process.

The Sale Shark is one of three changes to the side for the game from last week's 69-0 defeat against England.

Lock Sam Monaghan returns from injury while Nikki Caughey replaces the injured Nicole Cronin at fly-half.

And McWilliams believes his side can beat Scotland if they get their processes right.

He added: "It is funny because I have been perceived as someone who does not talk about results, but to reiterate, we do not focus on results because they are a byproduct of your process and how well you are working.

"You do not focus on that, good results happen as a result of your process, so I just hope our process is good this week so we can get a win against a good Scotland side.

"They were in the World Cup ahead of us, so our players have a point to prove. It is a great challenge."
