CLEAN-UP work was underway close to Acton Town station today (2) after a blaze that ripped through a neighbouring garage.

Trains were running again on the Piccadilly and District lines after being suspended for a while last night.

Altogether, 10 engines and around 70 firefighters fought the blaze in Bollo Lane.

There were a number of gas cylinders inside the single-storey garage and crews cooled these to avoid the risk of explosions.

Three men left the garage before the brigade arrived and around 35 people were evacuated from the area as a precaution.

Neighbours were advised to keep their windows closed due to the billowing smoke.

The alarm was raised at 5.10pm and the fire was not under control until 9.26. Crews from Acton, Chiswick, Ealing, Park Royal and other neighbouring stations attended.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
