TV presenter Konnie Huq and her husband, Charlie Brooker, are keen to de-clutter their Ealing home in the new year.

The focus of their attention was small, unwanted electrical items, and she is pictured donating a boxload to the Trinity charity, as part of the Recycle Your Electricals Give Back January campaign.

In the UK alone we bought nearly 40 million new electrical items over the festive period, resulting in 4.2 million abandoned items, with two million of them thrown in the bin.

If, like Konnie, we all donated them to those in need, the value would be £136m.

The most popular items bought in the festive period were headphones and earphones, followed by Christmas lights and smart phones.

Anyone wishing to support Give Back January can find their nearest recycling or donation points via an easy-to-use postcode tracker on  www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk.  Some neighbourhoods also have a kerbside collection service.
