Jamie George believes there is more to come from Saracens after they managed to overcome a 14-point deficit to beat Newcastle Falcons 37-23 in the Gallagher Premiership.

In what was their home opener at the StoneX Stadium, Mark McCall’s men endured a testing first half of action, trailing 17-3 at one point.

But a penalty try right before the break, which saw Newcastle reduced to 14 men, got their engines going, with George and company running in three second-half tries to seal the win.

“We were so bad [in the opening half an hour]," said George.

“Compounding individual errors is really difficult and there wasn’t really anything we did really badly.

“Our set piece was decent and collision wise we were ok, we did drop the ball a couple of times.

“We’ve just got to be a bit more clinical and more accurate. We turned it up in the second half and got going.

“The first 30 minute we were poor, but then we came out of the lockers better in the second half.”

Saracens’ second half was a vintage performance from the newly-promoted side.

After misfiring multiple times in attack during the first half, the hosts managed to find their accuracy in the second thanks to scores from George, Billy Vunipola and Mako Vunipola.

It has been a promising start to the season for Saracens, who have now won two of their opening three Premiership games.

And following the win over Newcastle, George, who was named Man of the Match, reckons there’s plenty more to come from Sarries ahead of what promises to be an exciting season.

“There’s so much more to come from us,” added George.

“I don’t know if rusty is the right word – we’ve got a lot more in us.

“The way the guys set the stall against Bristol in the first game of the season was unbelievable.

“We were shocking against Leicester and a little bit better against Newcastle. Hopefully we can build on it.

“It’s not through any lack of effort, we’ve just got to fine tune somethings and get better in a lot of areas.”
