Pumped-up Gordon Reid bids to banish his Brazilian doubles demons as he leads ParalympicsGB’s medal-chasing Scots into action on Day Ten in Tokyo.

Reid, accompanied by red-hot wheelchair tennis doubles partner Alfie Hewett, were pipped in the gold medal match by Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer in Rio and are gunning for revenge against the French duo on Friday.

Club throw star Joanna Butterfield and boccia brothers Scott and Jamie McCowan are also in action as the Scottish stars on show team seek to solidify ParalympicsGB’s grip on second place in the medal table.

It’s already been a Toyko summer to savour and with the Games about to reach their conclusion, here are the Scots to watch on a fantastic Friday in the Japanese capital.

Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett – wheelchair tennis doubles final – time TBC (3rd on Centre Court)

Reid and Hewett’s tilt at Paralympic glory was almost blown up in smoke when one of wheelchair tennis’ support staff tested positive for Covid-19.

None of the seven-strong squad were identified as close contacts, however, meaning Reid, 29, and Hewett – who boast 35 Grand Slams between them – could continue their quest to bounce back from their previous silver.

The pair both lost their singles semi-finals on Thursday but admit it’s those memories of a three-set doubles defeat against Houdet and Peifer in 2016 that still haunt them.

They now have the perfect chance to have the last laugh, however, doing battle with the defending champions for the gold medal at what should be a viewing-conducive time on Friday morning.

Joanna Butterfield – F51 club throw final – 11:05am

There’s no shortage of mid-morning viewing in store and club throw ace Butterfield, from Glasgow, also goes for gold in F51 club throw just after 11am.

Butterfield, 42, is the defending champion from Rio but goes into the showpiece knowing she faces a serious three-pronged challenge.

2019 world champion Zoia Ovsii and reigning European champion Elena Gorlova both line-up in a star-studded field and Butterfield will have to be at her best to retain her Brazilian crown.

Jamie and Scott McCowan – BC3 pairs boccia – 6:25am/10:05am
Boccia is continuing to capture the public’s imagination in Tokyo and with the pairs climax looming, Scotland’s favourite Paralympic brothers are back.

Scott, 30, beat Jamie – four years younger – in the individual competition but the duo have joined forces along with Beth Moulam to gun for pairs glory.

The trio lost their first two Pool A games against Greece and Republic of Korea and know their Paralympic hopes are firmly on the line at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre on Friday morning.
