A SOUTHALL voluntary group has won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the equivalent of an MBE for individuals.
Mael Gael Multicultural Community Project will receive an award crystal and certificate from the Queen’s representative for Ealing this summer.
Two volunteers from Mael Gael will also attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace next year.
Project co-ordinator Daljit Singh Grewal responded: “I am delighted for all our volunteers who have put in thousands of hours of hard work and commitment over the past six years.”
Mael Gael serves the elderly and young people from its base at Norwood Hall in Norwood Green Road, Southall.
Its programme for the elderly aims to help reduce loneliness, isolation and pensioner poverty, while youth projects combat crime and anti-social behaviour.
Women’s are also empowered to live confident independent lives.
