FORGET about Chelsea FC, the Huq household is now turning to Hanwell Town.

Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa has attacked plans for a breakaway European Super League and wants to work with other political parties to stop it happening.

She will support efforts to block plans by six English clubs — Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham — to take part annually without having to qualify.

Ms Huq added: “Football governance should be about the millions of fans it serves - not the interests of an elite.

“The Huq household is traditionally a Chelsea one, but after this, at my son’s insistence, we’re now thinking of switching our allegiance to Hanwell Town, which is genuinely rooted in the borough of Ealing.

“They need the ticket sales more than anyone and are at the other end of the spectrum to fat-cat clubs who trample over the fans.”

Nicknamed The Geordies, Hanwell men’s team play in the Isthmian League at the Powerday Stadium in Perivale.

The MP joined a summit on Tuesday convened by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, which urged Competition and Markets Authority to investigate whether plans for the Super League’ would fall foul of laws to uphold fairness.
