FORMER Harefield Hospital patient Eugene Miskelly walked 45 miles along the Thames and raised £8,000 for Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity at the weekend.

Last summer, he was in intensive care at Harefield following a routine heart operation.

For the last eight months, he has been recovering from the loss of strength and muscle tissue he experienced while in a coma. He had to learn to walk again.

Part of his recovery is challenging himself to walk further and further. Eugene also wanted to give something back to the hospital that cared for him.

Eugene said: “Through my training, I've found more inner strength than I ever imagined I could muster.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions, I was not allowed any visitors, so little acts of kindness took on even greater significance.”
