An Ealing artist is celebrating West London by creating illustrated prints of the community’s favourite pubs, parks, and other landmarks.

When Charlotte Berridge launched Charlotte Berridge Studio five years ago, she began by illustrating Ealing – her home, but as her business grew, she gradually added more and more areas of West London.

With people exploring places closer to home during the various lockdowns, Berridge has found that the community response to her illustrations has become increasingly positive.

She explained: “It’s wonderful to see that so many other residents feel such a connection to the areas which I’m illustrating, areas I know and love well.

“People have re-discovered their local areas throughout the lockdowns, and that sense of community and belonging is now stronger than ever.

“I think many people didn’t realise how many incredible green spaces were literally on their doorsteps. Our parks have definitely become a focal point throughout the last year, providing tranquil spots to step into nature or places to safely meet with friends.”

In addition to her park prints, Berridge said she is probably best known for illustrations of West London’s historic pubs.

She said: “People always have great memories to share about dates, birthdays, and events they have celebrated in each of them.

“We are luckily spoilt for choice when it comes to great local pubs and for me, researching both the inside and the outside of each pub, makes each print even more fun to create!”

Berridge also produces personalised prints, which customers often buy as wedding, anniversary, or housewarming presents, as well as an Ealing Half Marathon print in collaboration with the organisers – which participants can add their name and running time to when they buy.

Of the sales of these prints, 20% goes directly to Ealing Half Marathon, to reinvest in local projects.

In addition to on her website, Berridge also sells her illustrations from All Original, a family-run, independent gift shop located on Ealing Green.

Berridge commented: “All Original seamlessly knits together a beautifully curated selection of unique gifts alongside the work of around 30 individual designers (like me!), who rent shelf space to sell their wares.

“I love it, not just because it’s the bricks and mortar place where I sell my work, but it really has become the heart and soul of my business.

“It’s the place where I’ve met so many likeminded creatives, and their advice and support make everything about running a small business a lot less isolating and definitely a lot more fun!”

Like all non-essential shops, All Original is closed due to lockdown, but they have introduced a new click and collect service to keep their business running through the pandemic. You can find out more about Charlotte Berridge Studio here.
