John Lewis released their new Christmas advert today but it featured a 222 bus in Tooting when the 222 actually goes from Uxbridge to Hounslow.

Not only does the bus run in Hillingdon and not Tooting, it is a double-decker route master meaning it does not look at all like the bus in the advert.

Twitter-users were quick to point out the mistake.

One user said: “The 222 bus route in London does not run to Tooting. 2020 has been ruined.”

Another said: “The John Lewis Christmas ad is sending me, why the **** IS THE BUS GOING TO TOOTING??”

If accuracy was not on the minds of the creators at John Lewis, what was? We investigated the significance of the number 222 and found three reasons why it might have been chosen.

1) Angel numbers

In numerology an angel number is a sequential number where one number is repeated multiple times like in 222.

The number 222 specifically is linked to faith, harmony and growth.

When you see the number 222 popping up it is supposed to be a sign that you should make sure you are cooperating with yourself and with others to achieve positive results.

This is a big part of the John Lewis advert this year which shows characters helping one another and cooperating to achieve goals.

2) Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction in New Thought Philosophy is the belief that a person’s thoughts affects their experiences.

The number two is linked to relationships in the Law of Attraction.

When you start seeing the number 222 it is supposedly a sign that you should be paying attention to the people in your life and thinking positively about relationships.

This could mean checking in on loved ones or reaching out and making new friends.

The 2020 John Lewis advert is all about this with its title being ‘Give a Little Love’ and this year reaching out to one another has been more important than ever.

3) Word Play

The ‘two two two to Tooting’ does sound good, it has to be said.

It could be that the creators of the John Lewis advert were just making use of word-play and enjoyed the alliterative sound of the phrase.

It is cute and light-hearted, even if it means there is an inaccuracy in the advert.
