A community football club said plans to redevelop its facilities may not be “feasible” due to concerns around parking and usage agreements, despite council assurances these issues can be overcome.

Scott Wade, of Forest United Football Club, based in Preston Road, suggested the details of the new grounds are yet to be fully agreed upon.

There are plans to transfer the Tenterden Pavilion and Sports Ground to the Wembley Education Charitable Trust (WECT), on the condition it works collaboratively with Forest United on the proposals.

However, in a written submission to Brent Council, the club outlined some concerns around the level of parking available to its members at the site and called for confirmation around access to the facilities once they are completed.

Mr Wade said: “What’s been left out of this [agreement] are some very important, fundamental, critical aspects which would make it feasible for us.

“We’ve been unable to progress on two of these key items and, as it stands, it’s not looking feasible for us to participate.”

Alan Lunt, strategic director of regeneration and environment at Brent Council, explained it would be willing, subject to negotiations, to “enter into dialogue” with Forest United to discuss a longer lease arrangement.

And Nick Ljuština, director of property and assets at the council, noted that discussions around parking provision are “ongoing”.

It comes as the council’s cabinet agreed to extend the completion deadline for the redevelopment to September 2024.

Planning permission was granted by the council last month, which will see a new three-storey building accompany new pitches for community, school and club use.

Cllr Shama Tatler, who is responsible for regeneration, property and planning at Brent Council, said: “It has taken us a while to get to this point, but I’m glad to see planning approval granted.

“We are continually working with the football club and WECT to make sure concerns are addressed and resolved as quickly as possible.

“This [completion date extension] allows us to make sure we’ve got everything as we want before rushing into things.

“We’re hoping we can get these done soon to bring forward delivery of a great sports facility in the north of the borough, which is exactly what we need.”
