A pedestrian was taken to hospital after he was hit by a vehicle.

The collision happened in Vicarage Road in Watford early this afternoon.

Police say it happened outside the football stadium and the road was shut in both directions.

The man was taken to hospital, presumably Watford General which is just down the road, to have his injuries assessed.

His condition is unknown but it is believed to be a serious incident because the road was closed for a number of hours and a collision investigator has been at the scene.

Police have not said yet what type of vehicle was involved in the collision.

Vicarage Road was shut both ways between Oxford Street and Watford General and only reopened just after 7pm.

A recovery truck was pictured at the scene this evening, along with the collision investigator and police officers.

There were traffic delays in West Watford while Vicarage Road was closed with Wiggenhall Road and Whippendell Road affected.
