A FLOOD warning and alert are in place in Cumbria as much of the county continues to be battered by torrential downpours.

An Environment Agency flood warning, the second highest level, is in place for Keswick Campsite. It says: "River levels are forecast to rise at the Lodore river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible. Flooding is expected to affect low lying areas bordering the shores of Derwentwater and the frontage of the Keswick Camping and Caravan Club Site.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and further rainfall is forecast overnight. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near rivers."

Meanwhile, a flood alert is in place for the Lower River Eden. The alert states: "River levels are forecast to rise at the Linstock river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible overnight and tomorrow morning (October 30). Flooding is expected to affect low lying land and roads in the Crosby-on-Eden, Linstock, Carlisle and Rockcliffe areas.

"High river levels are possible on the River Eden, River Caldew, River Petteril, Durranhill Beck, Brunstock Beck, Gosling Sike, Little Caldew, Parham Beck, Rockcliffe Beck and their tributaries.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and further rainfall is forecast overnight. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near rivers."

A flood alert is also in place for the upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater.

It warns of the potential flooding of roads and farmland today.

The alert states: "Lake levels are forecast to continue to rise at the Lodore river gauge as a result of ongoing rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible today.

"Flooding is expected to affect low-lying land and roads in the Seatoller, Stonethwaite, Rosthwaite, Grange-in-Borrowdale and Derwentwater shoreline areas.

"High river and lake levels are possible on the River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck, Watendlath Beck, Derwentwater and their tributaries.

"We expect river levels to remain high until Monday. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please avoid using low lying footpa;ths near rivers."

There are also flood alerts in place for the Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster and Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck.
