NEARLY 500 coronavirus cases have been reported across the whole of Sussex in the last 48 hours, official figures show.

There were 151 new cases in Brighton and Hove.

Public Health England figures show that 2,076 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am yesterday, up from 1,925 the same time on Friday.

There were 102 new cases in East Sussex, making its total 2,894 since the start of the pandemic back in March.

There were 221 new cases in West Sussex where the total is now 5,043.

The cases were among the 66,238 recorded across the South East, which rose by 2,898 over the period.

Across the United Kingdom, the number of recorded cases increased by 19,790 to 873,800 yesterday.

The daily deaths in the UK also continue to rise.

A further 151 people have died within 28 days of testing positive.

This is a decline on Friday’s count which was 224.

The national death toll is now 58,164.

There are now 7,850 people in hospital with coronavirus.

Of those affected who are in hospital, 743 people are currently being treated while they are using ventilator beds.
