AN Ealing woman completed the One Million Step Challenge for Diabetes UK after pledging to raise funds to fight the condition.

NHS worker Maureen McGinn took part in the event, which ran from July until September and which asked people to take one million steps over three months -10,000 steps a day.

Maureen, 56, said: “I did the challenge last year - but life was different! I could take a consistent regular number of steps travelling to and from work and during the day.

“In 2020, that all changed, of course. My work as a project manager for the NHS is now largely home-based, with many hours spent looking at a screen.

“In March, I contracted COVID19, put on weight and became much less fit, so I really needed the extra incentive to get out there, before and after my working day at home, for both my physical and mental health and to support me in my life with type 1 diabetes.”
