At least six schools within Harrow have had to tell pupils or staff to go home and self-isolate after positive tests for coronavirus.

Harrow Council has confirmed that they are aware of at least eight positive Covid-19 tests across six schools in the borough.

While the council did not specify who from which schools were affected, a spokesperson from the council said: “The impact ranges from sending a handful of individuals (pupils and staff) home immediately to self-isolate to individual classes, and whole/or partial year groups.

“Each school immediately sought advice from Public Health England’s London Coronavirus Response Centre (LCRC) and followed the guidance provided including advising which students and staff should self-isolate immediately and carrying out thorough cleans. “

Longfield Primary School in Rayners Lane told parents that a child was told to self-isolate after testing positive for Covid-19.

Park High School in Stanmore has also confirmed a case of Covid-19 at the school.

Near to the borough, two staff members at Bushey Meads school tested positive for Covid-19 and further staff members were told to self-isolate.

The school reassured parents that children were safe after sister-site Watford Observer broke the news.

In an email sent to parents and carers, executive principal Jeremy Turner wrote: “You may well have read in the Watford Observer information about two staff at Bushey Meads who are self-isolating at home.

“As a school we would never share personal information about any staff sickness and I would like to reassure you that, as always, we are following all the government guidelines.

“No students have been in close contract with the members of staff and need to self-isolate; the school is safe and all necessary Public Health England advice is being followed.

“Students have continued to be extremely well behaved and have followed all the necessary adaptations, protocols and new rules.”

Hertfordshire County Council said the staff members are self-isolating and neither member has been asked to return to school.
