AN ADMIRED and hard-working woman who has touched the lived of many has passed away.

The Ulverston community has lost one of its most active contributors in the form of former Mayor and Councillor Barbara Mary Crellin, who died at the age of 81, on August 4.

She was the much loved wife of the late Bob, stepmother of Lesley and loving grandmother to Natalie, Paul, and Mathew.

A private family ceremony will be taking place around the current Covid-19 restrictions to celebrate the amazing life of such a devoted and adored woman.

Her career with Ulverston Town Council was only matched by her outstanding and passionate work for various charitable causes throughout her life, which she continued to organise right until the very end.

Taking on many roles, Barbara put on numerous charitable events in her life including the Ulverston Home Safety Committee, where she served as Secretary of the committee, delivering safety advice for hundreds of people, and charitable walks across Ulverston as far back as the early 2000s.

Barbara also worked as a school governor, worked on various committees, and worked very closely with Furness Carers.

Ulverston Councillor Jannette Jenkinson, worked with Barbara during her career.

She said: “Barbara was a real community councillor, and very active in the early days with the now disbanded Community Health Council.

“She was also on the Ulverston safety committee, as the secretary but also doing a lot of voluntary work with them.

“She was an outstanding traveller, something we were all in awe of. She was very independent, and she went just about everywhere.

“It is very sad to see her go. Even until her death she had been organising walks for charity.

"She was a really caring and lovely lady in every way. She put a lot into life.

"Everything she did was with her whole heart. I think I can speak for many of us and say she’ll leave a hole in a lot of places.

"We love her so much.”
