PERFORMANCE students from the University of West London in Ealing have transformed their final-year play for online audiences.
They created their own costumes and built stage sets at home to explore lockdown via a virtual theatre.
Unable to perform for a live audience, third-year students on the Acting and Theatre-Making degree course have transformed their final performance into a series of solo scenes.
Each was filmed from the safety of home and edited together into a play to be screened to an online audience.
The play, After the Tempest, explores Shakespeare’s characters older and trying to manage in an extraordinary moment, with students drawing on personal experiences of lockdown through a series of monologues.
Performances will be screened at www.uwl.ac.uk/tempest on June 5-6 before being replayed as part of UWL ArtsFest 2020 Online this month.
The Acting and Theatre-Making BA (Hons) course was launched in 2017 to combine actor training with skills in directing, writing and creating.
