Police and NHS staff gathered outside Watford General Hospital this evening to mark what is set to be the last ever clap for carers.

Since the weekly event started 10 weeks ago, millions of people across the country have regularly paused to applaud frontline NHS staff, carers and health workers who are working during the coronavirus pandemic.

It has seen throngs of people gather in their gardens, balconies and on street corners, sometimes playing instruments or bashing pots and pans to create a visual and audible show of support.

With this week’s clap set to be the last, police and Watford NHS staff gathered outside the borough’s hospital to applaud those on the front line during the Covid-19 crisis.

Police also turned out for the clap

Following the clap, one NHS worker said: “It was great and it’s a nice show of support for people who are working hard to fight the virus at the moment and trying to deal with what is going on.”
