A SYSTEM of virtual visits to patients is being used at hospitals in the London North West University NHS Trust, including Ealing Hospital.

NHS Book will also go live at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals this week.

It allows patients and loved ones to remain connected at a time when they are unable to be together physically.

Virtual visiting is being deployed in 66 wards in London North West on COVID and non-COVID wards.

Made Tech created the simple-to-use digital service that allows ward staff to schedule calls between a patient and a loved one, with minimal data needed to make the call.

NHS Book can be accessed via any website browser and works across all devices.

Ward staff input the loved one’s details and an SMS is automatically sent, stating when their virtual visit is booked.

The visitor receives a unique link to join the call when the ward is ready. If the call has to be postponed, the system can easily re-book visits.

Chaplains can also use NHS Book to provide spiritual and pastoral support to patients.
