Five Covid-19 patients have died at Barts Health hospitals, the trust which runs Whipps Cross has announced.

Data published today by the NHS shows one coronavirus patient died on March 30, three on March 31 and one on April 1.

In total there has been 72 confirmed deaths at hospitals run by Barts Health NHS Trust.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust – which runs King George hospital in Ilford – has reported no new deaths.

The trust's total death toll stands at 13.

Across the country, a further 604 people, who tested positive have died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals to 3,302.

Of the confirmed deaths, patients were aged between 24 and 100 years old.

Thirty-four of the 604 patients (aged between 27 and 92 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

Coronavirus death notifications can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure, said NHS England.
