Eight Covid-19 patients have died at the Princess Alexandra hospital, the trust has announced.

Data published today by the NHS shows six coronavirus patients died on March 30, one on April 1 and one yesterday (April 2).

In total there has been 42 confirmed deaths at the Harlow hospital run by the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.

Lance McCarthy, chief executive, for The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust said: “We can confirm that sadly, eight patients, aged between 51 and 85 years old passed away at The Princess Alexandra Hospital. They had tested positive for COVID-19 and six of these patients had underlying health conditions.

“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ families and loved ones at this difficult time."

Across the country, a further 604 people, who tested positive have died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals to 3,302.

Of the confirmed deaths, patients were aged between 24 and 100 years old.

Thirty-four of the 604 patients (aged between 27 and 92 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

Coronavirus death notifications can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure, said NHS England.
