Councils are cancelling a number of public meetings and events in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Today’s health and wellbeing board meeting at Harrow Council was called off and Brent Council announced that the Welsh Harp joint consultative committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow (March 18) would take place at a later date.

Several Brent Connects meetings across the borough up until April 9 have been cancelled, while the ‘Moving on Up’ event, a health and wellbeing fair and a job and apprenticeship show have been postponed.

And the Harrow Business Den final – a ‘dragons’ den-style’ event aimed at promoting and supporting local entrepreneurs – will not take place tomorrow.

Other public meetings across the two authorities – including tonight’s planning meeting and Harrow’s cabinet meeting on Thursday (March 19) – are still scheduled to go ahead.

Council officers noted that, given the nature of the situation, things can change at late notice and news of reschedules will be publicised when available.

Harrow and Brent Councils said they have been following advice from Public Health England with regards to developments around covid-19.

They reiterated government advice around washing hands frequently and avoiding touching one’s face, particularly the eyes, nose and mouth.

Travel should be limited, social gatherings avoided, and extra care taken for those aged 70 and above, have underlying health conditions, are pregnant or have a weakened immune system.
