Two councils have pledged their support for this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

The clean, which is the country’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign, will be going ahead in March – and Watford Borough Council and Three Rivers District Council are encouraging anyone to take part.

Running from Friday March 20 to Monday April 13, the initiative aims to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights towns, villages, countryside and parks.

Watford Council says litter-picking kits, bags, and recycling advice will be available from its recycling and waste partner Veolia, who will work alongside residents and collect plastic bottles, cans and waste from the event.

Meanwhile Three Rivers will be arranging a number of litter picks throughout the district during the day.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “We are very proud to support this fantastic initiative once again. The Great British Spring Clean is the perfect opportunity for residents to get active outdoors and help clear up any rubbish that you see.

“Don’t forget that you can borrow the litter-pickers free of charge throughout the year, not just in March, so we can continue to keep Watford clean. I’d like to thank everyone in our town who is coming together to support this great initiative.”

Sara Bedford, leader of Three Rivers District Council, added: “I am delighted that our councillors, residents and staff are taking part in this year’s campaign.

“Our actions will contribute towards our desire to continue to have a clean environment that makes Three Rivers a perfect place to visit and live in.”
