A cyclist has died after a crash with a lorry on the A40.

Metropolitan Police were called at 6.20am to the A40 in Northolt to reports of the crash involving a cyclist and a lorry.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services workers, the cyclist - a man in his 40s - died at the scene.

The driver of the lorry did stop at the scene after the incident, but there have been no arrests made.

The A40 Western Avenue has been closed since 6.55am today and has caused delays to morning commutes around north west London and Watford after the crash.

There is queuing traffic from Hillingdon Circus to the A4180 West End Road at the Polish War Memorial, South Ruislip.

Congestion to Swakeleys Roundabout is also building up long queues through Ickenham and Ruislip as traffic diverts.

Police enquiries continue as they try to establish the circumstances of the death.

Anyone with information, or who may have captured the collision on dashcam footage, is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 1171/03JAN.
