Care home manager finally returns home after marking 20 years of hard work by visiting America.

April Parrott-Carter, 55, returned to her role as home manager at Field House Care Home in Harpenden last week after she took one months' leave to travel to the United States.

Ms Parrott-Carter decided to travel to West Virginia to mark 20 years of working at Bupa Care Services.

Ms Parrott-Carter first began nursing in August 1980. She studied to become a nurse while working part-time at a family firm set up by her grandfather in Kings Langley, where she grew up.

She said: “Working in care is something I’m passionate about. I love the variety of work involved as a home manger.

“Providing high quality care is so important to me, and the residents here at Field House have become like family.”

During her trip, she took part in the World Scout Jamboree. As part of the Scout Jamboree movement she spent the last 18 months preparing for the trip to become an adult leader for more than 36 young people across Hertfordshire.

The event was attended by 46,000 scouts and leaders from more than 160 countries, including Philippines, Africa, and Denmark. This year, it was hosted by scout groups in America, Canada and Mexico.

The group from Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire spent three weeks travelling to various places in the state learning about the different cultures.

Regional director Emma Parker said: “We’re delighted to have April back – we missed having her on the team. We’re so proud of what she’s accomplished, not only on her trip, but also everything she’s achieved throughout her career in care.”
