EUROPE'S biggest festival of South Asian culture, the London Mela, closed in Southall Park on Sunday with a spectacular finale.

Dhol Academy joined with digital artists Addictive TV for a montage of sound and image, filmed with hundreds of musicians from around the world as a backdrop for live Dhols on stage in Southall Park.

More than 23,000 people watched 50 performances on Saturday, while the next day Arjun drew the largest crowd of the weekend with his hits on the BBC Asian Network stage.

There was more than music to discover at the Mela, with the Taste of Asia food market and the Magic Mela area of workshops and sporting activity for children.

London Mela artistic director Ajay Chhabra said: Events for communities to come together are even more important in these challenging times and the London Mela 2019 proved once again just what an important cultural event it is.”
